Hire Purchase

As part of its consumer affairs portfolio, the Ministry encourages consumers to contact consumer protection agencies, like the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC), when making purchases of expensive or technical items. Consumers who enter into hire purchase (paying for goods by installments) agreements with suppliers are encouraged to make arrangements with the vendor if they are unable to make the payment on time.

Also consumers should make sure that they are fully aware of both their rights and obligations under any hire purchase agreement prior to purchase. Remember, goods bought on hire purchase can be repossessed by the vendor.
