Trade Board Limited


The Trade Board Limited is a regulatory agency of Government, operating under the legal authority of the Trade Act and the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce.  It is Jamaica’s certifying authority for goods exported under various trade agreements.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:

  • Issuance of  Import and Export Licences
  • Issuance of Certificates of Origin
  • Implementation of  Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Provision of  policy advice to relevant ministries/agencies on matters related to rules of origin under various trade agreements
  • The administration of the Scrap Metal, Refined Sugar & Milk Powder Regimes

VISION
The Trade Board Limited is the focal point for facilitation and support of modern commerce through trade, export enhancement, rules observance and a repository and disseminator of national, regional and international trade-related information.

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Trade Board Limited is:

  • To facilitate the increase of trade nationally, regionally and internationally by the issuance of licences and certificates of origin consistent with Government policies and international agreements.
  • To be efficient and responsive to the needs of our customers
  • To operate within the ambit of and consistent with international best practice, standards and protocols.
  • To effectively communicate and educate our customers and stakeholders on trade related matters.
  • To engage and retain a cadre of highly skilled, trained, competent and motivated staff.
  • To ensure compliance with environmental procedures and standards with respect to trade related matters relevant to our mandate.

The Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce is described as Jamaica's "Business Ministry." It's mandate is to lead the development of policies that will create growth and jobs, while achieving social inclusion and consumer protection. The Ministry, working its stakeholders is primarily responsible for business policy development, monitoring and evaluation, while giving direction and oversight to a cluster of implementing departments and agencies.

We have, therefore, placed much energy and enthusiasm into the development of this website to provide timely information on the Ministry, our agencies and programmes.
