Stakeholders in the agriculture sector are being sensitised about the possible changes that are coming to the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Produce Safety Rule, which will require them to carry out assessments to ensure that water used to grow produce is free from contaminants. THE PARISH of Westmoreland is set to benefit from a multimillion US dollar investment of $337 million which will see the cultivation of 25,000 acres of farmlands to produce bamboo pulp for the global consumer tissue and personal hygiene industry. Inspection overhaul for portable gas cylinders

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has increased the interval period for inspection and hydrostatic testing – checks for leaks and strength – of portable gas cylinders from 10 to 12 years. Production of medical grade oxygen at Industrial Gases Limited (IGL) will be increased by 40 per cent with the commissioning of an oxygen PSA plant.
