The Trade Marks Amendment Act of 2021 (TMA 2021) is a major development in Jamaica’s trade mark law. Jamaican company brands, logos, as well as Brand Jamaica are now able to obtain global protection. A total of 32 product standards were promulgated by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) in 2020. These are related to cannabis (3); hand sanitisers (1); toy safety (6); household and similar electrical appliances (5); fluorescent and led lamps (2); electric cables, insulation, conductors and enclosures (9); refrigerating appliances (3); pre-packaged goods (2); and bamboo straws (1).
