With the appointment of a new German Ambassador to Jamaica, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, wants to explore greater levels of cooperation with the Government and people of Germany.
Speaking during a courtesy call at his New Kingston offices on October 8, 2018, Minister Shaw welcomed the newly appointed German Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Dr. Bernd von Münchow -Pohl. He informed the ambassador that Jamaica and Germany have always had a very good relationship, particularly as it relates to the automobile industry.
“What we want to do is to increase and promote other areas of cooperation and business between Jamaica and Germany going forward. Some of the areas that we could look at are the trading services, renewable energy, and training in the automobile industry,” said Minister Shaw.
Both the minister and the ambassador expressed hope for increased cooperation between the countries during the ambassador’s tenure.
The ambassador expressed confidence that the good relationship which Jamaica and Germany share will continue and added that, “What I want to see is more German activities in the sectors in Jamaica. I could see some economic benefits coming from these areas.”
Prior to being posted to Jamaica, Ambassador Dr. Bernd von Münchow-Pohl was Ambassador of Germany to Niger. He has been a member of the diplomatic service since 1988 and has served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
