Farmer Zephora Davis shows off her melon in Flagaman, St. Elizabeth to Glenville Hall, Zonal Director, and Jermaine Wilson, Extension Officer, both of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) during a tour of the area on October 18. Melons and other crops will be ready for reaping in another three weeks, following the fire which devastated farms in the area. To date, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries through the RADA has provided $14.3m in resuscitation assistance to the farmers.

50 farmers receive tanks, training and irrigation system under climate change adaptation and mitigation project

A total of 50 farmers from the community of Cascade in St. Ann have benefitted from the Japan Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (JCCCP) Project, which seeks to enhance their capabilities in climate change adaptation and mitigation. Under the JCCP project, the Cascade farmers received 1000-gallon tanks, a multipurpose shed that facilitated the harvesting of water in the tanks, and a drip irrigation system to irrigate their crops.
