Industrial Starch Market Poised for Growth

Director General in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Vivian Brown, says that the industrial starch market worldwide is poised for growth within the next six years. “Output in the industrial starch industry, by volume, is projected to reach 113.9 MT by 2020, at a compound annual growth rate of 3.9% from 2016. Gov’t begins removal exercise of all brands of corned beef imported from Brazil

Following the March 20 temporary ban on corned beef by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the National Food Safety Recall Committee held an urgent meeting on March 21, as stipulated by the National Food Safety Policy. No Evidence of Lead in Curry Samples

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda said he is pleased at reports that no evidence of lead has been found in samples of powdered curry sold locally. The National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) collected 26 samples from 17 companies following a recall of the products by the United States of America on December 12. The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) advised Minister Samuda that the samples, which were tested in January and February, were found to be acceptable and without evidence of contamination. Government imposes temporary ban on Brazilian corned beef

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries has imposed an immediate import ban on corned beef originating from Brazil. The move follows reports from Brazilian authorities that several major Brazilian meat processors have been “selling rotten beef and poultry”. The companies are also alleged to have paid hefty bribes to auditors in exchange for fraudulent sanitary licenses. The Brazilian companies implicated by the Brazilian authorities supply 99.5 per cent of the corned beef on the local market.
